In a globalised world, India and Japan are viewing each other as natural and capable partners for carrying forward the progress achieved by each country. Being the two largest democracies in Asia, the two countries working together would also contribute to regional prosperity and stability. Therefore, a Project on Japanese Studies was launched at the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER), New Delhi with funding from Sasakawa Peace Foundation, Japan.

It is hoped that this will help to fill the existing research gap on Japan in India and help to strengthen the ties between the two countries. One of the principal activities of the ICRIER-SPF Japan Project is to bring together experts and specialists to deliberate on the future trends in Indo-Japan relations with the focus on the likely role of the two large economies in an increasingly globalizing world.
