Resource Constraints in an Open Economy with Due Consideration to National Security - Rajiv Kumar and Purnamita Dasgupta
This study is an input for the work done by the Working Group on Feedstock, Fuel and other Supply Side Constraints, constituted by the Planning Commission. It will provide a conceptual framework for policy for effective intervention for addressing the resource constraints faced by a rapidly growing manufacturing sector. The study will consider supply side constraints attributable to domestic policy distortions, while keeping in mind considerations of national security and the country’s comparative advantage in an open economy framework.

The National Interest Project - Amb. Santosh Kumar, Dr. Rajiv Kumar
Sponsoring Agency: Ministry of External Affairs
Commencement: July 2007
In consonance with ICRIER’s plan to build up capabilities and contribute towards strategic research and thinking, it has taken up the new project—The National Interest Project.
Sponsored by The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Government of India; this project is for two years. The Co-Directors for the project are Ambassador Santosh Kumar and Dr. Rajiv Kumar and in-house team members are Mr. Ashis Banerjee, Consultant and Mr. Rajeev Ranjan Chaturvedy, Research Associate.
The main objective of the project is to carefully analyze India’s national interests in the medium -to- long term (upto2030) so that they can serve as more effective benchmarks for external policy over the next decade and as a basis for building a national consensus on the conduct of external relations in the era of coalition politics and rapid socio-economic transition.
A multi-disciplinary analysis of India’s external relations in the national interest framework will throw up conclusions and recommendations for government.
